On Saturday I was walking by a yard as a white van was pulling out. \u201cHello I\u2019m Pat Murphy.\u201d Really? Do you know the song? He didn\u2019t so I started singing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=q7Bsb-8pxG8&amp;list=RDq7Bsb-8pxG8\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Oh the night that Paddy Murphy died, is a night I&#8217;ll never forget<br \/>\nSome of the boys got loaded drunk, and they ain&#8217;t got sober yet;<br \/>\nAs long as a bottle was passed around every man was feelin&#8217; gay<br \/>\nO&#8217;Leary came with the bagpipes, some music for to play<br \/>\nThat&#8217;s how they showed their respect for Paddy Murphy<br \/>\nThat&#8217;s how they showed their honour and their pride;<br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=q7Bsb-8pxG8&amp;list=RDq7Bsb-8pxG8\" target=\"_blank\">They said it was a sin and shame and they winked at one another<br \/>\nAnd every drink in the place was full the night Pat Murphy died&#8221;. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>As I get out of the van Pat says &#8220;Thanks for the song.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another time a red car pulls up. It&#8217;s Joe Daly back from Dublin. &#8220;Do you know the Cottage of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Con_Houlihan\" target=\"_blank\">Con Houlihan<\/a>?&#8221; Con was from Castleisland and considered &#8220;the greatest and the best-loved Irish sports journalist of all&#8221;. He Wrote a sports column for the Independent.
